If you’re new to this site, you can learn here what the site’s all about and how you can use it.

My name is Michael McLaughlin, publisher of this web site and its free monthly newsletter, Management Consulting News. (You can subscribe using the sign-up box to the right).

I am a practicing business consultant at MindShare Consulting, LLC, and I work with organizations and individuals who offer high-value services to their clients. You can read more about my story here, if you’d like.

I started Management Consulting News in my living room in 2002 to create a place for the best ideas I could find that would benefit anyone (including me) who offers business advisory services. Though I chose the name Management Consulting News, I hope the ideas I publish appeal to people well beyond the narrow scope of management consultants.

So, the content you’ll find here isn’t focused only on management consultants and it isn’t just “news.”

In these pages, you’ll find more than a hundred interviews and podcasts with the leading thinkers in the world. In each interview, I focus my questions on what you can do to build a better business, career, and life. You’ll also find links to the best resources for high-value service providers, insightful how-to articles, and commentary on the issues we face as business advisers.

If I’ve learned anything in my experience as a business consultant, and from all of the interesting people I’ve met through this site, it’s that pursuing mastery of six essential competencies separate the best from everyone else. All of the content on the site and in the free newsletter is intended to help you learn more about and get better at each of these competencies.

1. Market Leadership – Achieve a leadership position in the minds of those who matter.

2. Flawless Service Delivery – deliver stunning value to clients, manage every project precisely, meet profit targets, and use superior service delivery as a key strategy for building client relationships.

3. Sales Mastery – Execute a winning sales strategy for every opportunity you choose to pursue. Understand advanced strategies for account management and follow-on selling.

4. Operations Excellence – Manage all aspects of your business with the same rigor as you apply to client service work. Combine the highest level of client service with the lowest cost of doing business.

5. Performance Management – Keep a clear view of the overall performance of your business and the profit performance of each client relationship.

6. Renewal and Reinvention – Stay energized and passionate about what you do. Grow and prosper, professionally and personally.
